In the first half of 2026, the US beauty industry saw strong growth across all price tiers. This momentum was driven by high demand for fragrance, skincare, and self-care products that deliver both emotional and functional value, continuing a trend from Q1 when mass and prestige beauty grew at nearly the same rate for the first time in five years. Despite consumer confidence in general falling to an all-time low in recent months, the industry is demonstrating immense resilience.
According to research by Circana, prestige retail dollar sales grew +7% to $17.1 billion in the first six months of the year. In comparison, beauty sales in mass retail increased by 7% to $39.2 billion, with unit demand remaining positive on both sides.
“Beauty continues to benefit from consumers' willingness to shop across price tiers, selectively investing in products that deliver the strongest emotional and functional value," said Larissa Jensen, Senior Vice President and global beauty industry advisor at Circana, in a statement. "Fragrance remains a key avenue for affordable luxury and self-expression, while skincare is benefiting from consumers' growing focus on whole body wellness, preventative treatments, and daily rituals."
“Looking ahead, beauty industry growth will continue to be shaped by strong consumer engagement in key segments alongside the ongoing evolution of how consumers shop,” said Jensen. “As e-commerce and social platforms play a larger role in discovery and purchase, brands that create seamless paths from inspiration to transaction will be best positioned to capture future growth.”
